Month: February 2021

Dear AU Community,

We want to let you know about a project that we need your help with.

In April 2021 we are giving a training to paramedics in Buncombe County about how to respond to behavioral emergencies involving autistic folx. The main goal of this training is to give the paramedics resources so that they do not call law enforcement to the scene.

We are looking for community members who are willing to share their experiences and input with us on this topic. We want to do our best to represent the needs and concerns of the community.

If you would like to share your thoughts with us on this project, we’d love to hear from you!

Please contact us and let us know the best way to get in touch with you. We could do a ZOOM call with you or you could email your experiences or suggestions to us.

Thanks!

Danny Landry, AU Executive Director

Jade McWilliams, AU Board Chair/Webmaster

WNC Disability Day of Mourning 2021

Every March first we gather to keep vigil and remember the lives of people with disabilities who have been murdered by their families and caregivers. If you have the spoons, please consider joining this year’s virtual vigil being put on by UNC Asheville’s Disability Cultural Center and Office of Academic Accessibility. You can find more information here, and you can click on the image below for a PDF version of the flyer.
